Final film opening

Classification certificate

We thought that it would be a good idea to quickly put together a classification certificate to make our film opening look professional and to make the audience feel like they are watching it in a cinema.

I saved a picture of a ready made BBFC certificate and put the image in photoshop to remove to name of the film, names and age rating and replace them with our own title and names.

Character Profiles

For our film we have only two actors that play one character each,

Rebecca Blackledge: Will be playing a young women in which the audience will not know much about but the story behind this women is that her mum passed down a key that has been past down through the generations and she herself does not know the importance of this key which makes her oblivious to the up and coming danger that she is about to be the victim of.

Conner Bradley:Will be playing the assassin of our film and again the story behind him will not be made clear because it is only the opening.
This characters profile is very typical secret assassin, he has been hired by a organisation to obtain a object which is a key that the women wears around her neck, neither of characters know what this keys purpose is  but all he knows is that he is getting paid a lot of money for this key.

Props and Costume

We have thought very carefully about how we plan to dress the actors which are myself and Rebecca, we want the actors to look exactly right for there roles and make sure that they portray there given social classes.
Costume
Assassin: The assassin will will be dressed in smart business like where which includes trousers, white shirt, black tie, black leather shoes and a grey double breasted coat. For a couple of different scenes he will be dressed more casually dressed in a jeans but still wearing the white, shirt, coat and shoes.

Victim: The victim will be dressed in casual around the house clothing which consist of jeans, t-shirt, cardigan and in a few different scenes when we are outside she will be wearing shoes and a coat along with the same clothing.

 Props
·         blue Audi
      necklace with key on
·         kitchen knife from knife block
·         plate
·         tea towel
·         blanket
·         iPod
·         mobile phone
·         chips

These are the main props used throughout the clip, however our film is set in a modern day detached house which is full of usual house hold items and furniture.

Setting

The setting will take place at Rebecca's house, we have chose this location due to the fact that it is a very upper class looking house in a peaceful neighbourhood where it would be perfect for a hideous crime to take part.
There are other locations in which we are planning on filming at which consist of a local pub and a park, these shots will be scenes from the chase/following scenes.

This is the house that we are filming in, its very upper class looking house and has the exact look that we where looking for.

Final Ident

This is our Ident that we will be using for our film opening, Its a very simple ident because we did not want to spend to much time focusing on the ident so we put together a comical freeze frame ident for the audience.

Ident Story

Storyboard

This is our new storyboard for our ident, we made this one due to the lose of a group member. We decided to make the ident like this because it contradicts our whole film which is what we wanted to do with the ident to add a unpredicted twist to the start of our film.

Three act structure

Three act structure

Act 1, in the first act of our movie opening we will have a mysterious man breaking into a house which makes it clear to the audience that this man is clearly a criminal of sorts but are yet to find out his main crime.

Act 3, we will introduce a women to the scene and a key necklace, the man is now inside her house and is looking around for not only a weapon but the key. He finds the key around her neck and goes at her with the weapon.

Act 3, the man has attacked the women and taken the necklace, the closing shot will be of the women appearing to be dead but is left unknown as weather she is dead or just unconscious.

Who, What, Where, When and Why

Who, What, Where, When and Why

Who are the main characters?

The main characters in our opening film will be a young women called Anne, she will be playing the rightful owner of this key until it is brutally taken from her. The second main character will the hired hit man who has been paid by a very powerful man (who remains unknown) to set out and find this key to bring back to his employer.

What is main storyline?

We played around with a couple of ideas when we where planning but the one we chose was a simple action, adventure thriller genre movie smilier to a Lara Croft film. In this opening it will start with a confusing but logical entrance to bring the audience in and wanting to know what is going to happen and where this will lead.

Where will our filming take place?

The location we have chosen to film in will be Rebecca's nans house, we have chosen this location due to the sort of house it is which is detached, open and old looking on the outside.

When will we start filming?

It has been hard for our group to arrange a exact date for the filming of our opening scene due to busy time tables and out of school plans but we are hoping to start recording early march.

Why?

Everything that we have planned all has a reason and purpose which means that if we follow our plans and ideas it will go to plan and hopefully be able to come together and create a descent opening to out film. the reason why we have chosen this storyline is because its a rather simple idea but where it lacks storyline we are hoping to make up with it by using camera angles to make it a more thrilling movie.

Logline

The Key By Conner Bradley We chose the working title "The Key" because it has a action thriller sort of ring to it. The title fits well with our screen play because the whole purpose of film is about this mysterious key that people want what it unlocks. Log line The Key is a action based thriller starring Rebecca Blackledge as a young defenceless women who has been given a key in which has been left behind for her, also starring is Conner Bradley a hired man sent to obtain this key and what it unlocks with any means possible.

Mind map

This is our mind map of all the ideas that as a group have come up with, from these ideas we have successfully put together a story board of our film and have our final idea to start the production stages.

Our initial idea

After doing the mood board we have decided to stick with the crime idea, we are playing around with the idea of a man breaking into a house and taking something but not letting the audience know what exactly the purpose of the object that the man has taken.
We also like the idea of the man following a women back to the house in which in breaks into, when the man breaks into the house we then go to a series of shots where he is walking through the house to find the women.
With these basic ideas we can work off these ideas and turn them into more advanced ideas to turn the basics into our film opening and be able to create a really successful film.

Mood Board

This is our mood board which we threw together to show some of the ideas that we will be trying to capture in our film.
You can see that its very crime related, we have gone with making this our main topic of the film because we can develop this into a few different ideas and use it as a sort of branch to work off.

The findings

This is a table of the findings that we got back from the questionnaires we handed out.

Questionnaire Template

This is the template of our audience research questionnaire, we have structured our questionnaire to help us gain as much knowledge as possible into finding our who watches the genre of film we have chosen.

Wednesday 27 June 2012

What do I want to find?

From the research that we will be conducting we aim to find out which audiences consume what genres, and weather there are a lot of people that enjoy watching Action Thriller films. With this research i'm hoping to get a general idea of the age, social class, status, geo-demographics (where they are from) and gender.

Primary Research Techniques: We will be handing out our questionnaires to people that we think suitable to complete, for example different ages, genders and social class's.

Secondary Research Techniques: We will be looking at different websites and secondary resources such as BBFC stats and BFI stats.

Wednesday 20 June 2012

Why?

The reason for looking into different genres of films is so that I could get a feel for different genres and then choose which one that we where going to decide to make because if chose a genre and then was not 100% happy with that genre it would have been to late, so i researched three different genres and then decided to go with the genre of Action Thriller.

Kung Fu Panda
In these opening minutes of “Kung Fu Panda” you can see that it is a animated film and very surreal which tells us that it will be a original film (which it is). The scene starts with the “DreamWorks” title to show the creator of the movie but they have put a twist within their logo and this is a small man like figure running across the water and jumping on clouds to reach the moon which pans out into the “DreamWorks” title.
It then takes us to the main title of “Kung Fu Panda” and they have designed this to look very animated and very early kung fu movie looking and with the coming of the title we have a sound track change where they have used a mix of different instruments and sound effects to make it seem more like a serious king fu movie rather than a cartoon animated children’s movie which sort of adds to the comedy of the film. They have made the title of the film very clear unlike the “Fight Club” title which was rather small and blended with the background to much whereas this title is very big and bold and stands out. I think that the director has put a lot of thought into the presentation of the title because of the blending of the music and effect that goes with the title, also with the transition of the next section of the scene.
Once the speech starts in this scene you can tell straight away that not only that genre is comedy but also that it is going to be a very interesting film by the way they have chosen to use the speech and make sort of calm and the words are very important for example the repeating word “legend” is used to create a dramatic feel to this opening scene. The speech has  been made like this and put in this tone because the director wants to give that sort of storytelling feel to accommodate the way this cartoon strip opening has been produced which is a excellent idea to really rope the audience into what’s going on .
Its only at the end of this opening scene is when you really understand what is going when “Po” the panda is being woken up by what seems to be a voice from the background that is being spoken through the monkey and tiger which then leads to the panda waking up and shows us that he was dreaming.

Fight Club
In these opening credits it starts off with a sort of futuristic feel to it which then shows us that it is really someone’s head we are be being taken through and with the accompanying edits of this scene which would be the transactions and the special effects it make it harder for us to tell what and where this scene is taking place for example here could look like a series of wires instead of vein’s or brain structure.
The scene starts with the film maker’s agency title scene and then progresses into a sort violin background music which then generates into a more upper base soundtrack like the sort of music you would here in a “club” and the change in this music introduces the “FOX 2000 pictures” credit and starts the camera travel throughout this scene.
Then through some more shots of brain structure we get a title “Fight Club” which comes onto the screen very nicely with a special effect of blue neon and a sort of crashing feel to it and then shortly evaporates into smoke as the travelling through the brain continues.
After the opening credits come to a close and we exit the brain and it brings us out through a hair in the centre of his two eye brows, which is not at first recognisable till the camera pans out. This is when real camera footage takes over and allows us to see the angles of which the director is using and the sort of audience he is aiming for with first clips of drama and tension already in these early stages. The director is using a some extreme close ups very early in the scene and these close up are of some very interesting and are already getting us thinking of what is going for example the first one is of a man’s forehead and what appears to be sweat dripping down his face, this is immediately getting us thinking is he scared, under pressure, angry or just working out?. I think that this is a great way of starting a film and gives us an insight of what is going on. It then takes us to a close up shot foreground focused shot of the man holding a gun which helps us to explain what is going on and makes it clear when the speech starts.

What we aim to do?

We are aiming to create a 2 minute film opening for a new feature film.
Our group consists of myself and Beckie, we have decided to experiment with the idea of making a thriller action genre film but will be carrying out research into different genres so that we are not tying our selves done to this genre this early into our planning and research.
We are thinking about using Beckie's Nan's house as our main location of filming but will also be using different locations to film.

The research that will be conducting will consist of ...
Research into existing media products
Audience research
- Who watches what genre and why
- Age
- Gender
- Social class and Status
And a form of secondary research which could be either information and surveys form the BBFC or other websites that could give us the same information but with there so many of these official sites it may be a good idea to compare other websites.
